Post Office ProjectJune 2008 - UpdateWe have recently learnt that Chawleigh Post Office has been proposed to remain, by the Post Office Network Change Program. The site has been cleared, ready for the next stage of the building process and fundraising is ongoing - with many thanks to the village for the support they have given to this project, with a fundraising total so far of £11,000. However, with any fundraising project, help is required. The committee of fundraisers would love to hear from you if you would be able to help in any way - even if it is to provide a draw prize, or have fundraising ideas. If you like to help please contact the Web Editor who will pass on your offer November 2007 - Update
The village has raised a truly magnificent sum of £8103 since we started raising money in november 2006. As we have said all along this is a short term fund raising project, so please carry on supporting any events we hold. If for some reason the post office decides to include the chawleigh post office in its national closures, the building & site will remain as a shop so all monies raised, will stay in the village & local community. Once again many thanks to you all & lets keep up the truly amazing support. October 2006 - UpdateThe proposed Post Office/Village Shop will be located on the land between Sunny Court and the Royal Oak. The land is owned by the Parish Council (ie The Parish of Chawleigh) and planning permission has been granted. The cost of the building and its fittings will be in the region of £40–£50,000 and whilst a good proportion is likely to come from government and other sources, with what is known as ‘matched funding’, about half will have to be raised by the Parish. To this end the Post Office/Shop Fundraising Committee (POSFC) will be organising a number of events over the next year to 18 months. These will include, Quiz nights, Theme nights, ‘Burn a Christmas Tree’, Cow Pat event and many more of which you will all be kept informed. It is also hoped that that you would all like to sponsor bricks for the building. It should be noted that: * While the Post Office/Village shop is being built Julie Iredale, who took the position of Post Mistress as an interim
measure, has indicated that the Post Office will continue from its present location.
We hope that not only will the funds be raised but that in doing so everyone can have fun and enjoy themselves. |
